This event has passed - watch the talk in the video below.
In this talk and Q&A, Katie Bracher - for The British Sauna Society, hosts Birutė Masiliauskienė, Pirtis Master and expert in bath rituals.
In this specially curated talk Birute will reveal how the Pirtis and associated rituals developed to be an integral part of modern day Lithuanian culture. Delving into the how and whys of what makes a Lithuanian sweat bath so unique.
We'll discover what the pirtis bath means to the Lithuanians, some of the many ways to take a pirtis bath and how these ancient rituals can support us in our modern world.
The Lithuanian pirtis comes from the Baltic and Russian traditions of sweat bathing. The heat tends to be gentle, sessions long and rituals often use natural products and plants. Birutė is one of the foremost experts in her field, an absolute wealth of information and for anyone who has experienced one of her sessions, full of magic.
We will have some time for a Q&A after the presentation - so please do prepare any burning (boom boom) questions you have about the Pirtis or Lithuanian culture.
